Spiders Like to Cuddle
Did you know that spiders like to cuddle? Yes. Yes, they do.
I am encountering all the bugs here in Virginia. The other night, it was an ant. Last night, it was a spider. They sneak into your tent and hope to spend the night. I guess that’s what I get for stealth camping at the I-95 interchanges.
In case you missed my favorite stealth camping tip, I like camping at interchanges. There’s plenty of light, cars going by to give you a steady hum, fewer critters, and no homeless. Sadly, the other night, I was in an upscale town, but there were so many homeless people that there was no safe place to sleep. That’s how I ended up at the Immanuel Church.
Anyway.
I finally made it to the TransAmerican Bicycle Trail. Oddly, I am heading in the wrong direction. The reason is that I want to start at the beginning and enjoy (endure) the entire route. I have another 80+ miles to go before I reach Yorktown and return this way. I guess it’s an OCD thing. I like to do things from start to finish (like reading a book).
I am expecting to spend another 18 days in Virginia. That’s not by choice. Due to a bad repair (local shop in New York), the unrelenting hills I’ve encountered, and the weight of my bike, I barely have any gears. So the trip is taking way longer than anticipated.
What can I do about speed? Some time in May or June, I will switch from panniers to a wagon. This will distribute the weight better and give my bike a chance to go a few thousand miles more.
Well, that’s today’s update.
Oh. I lucked out and met the senior minister at Grace Church as I was passing by. I saw he and his wife were watering flowers. I asked if the hose was working so I could refill my water bottles. The next thing, he’s letting me sleep under the pavilion tonight. This allows me to catch up on letters, this post, recharge my batteries, and get a good night’s sleep. The only caveat is that I have to leave before 7 a.m.
